Aiyansh Hot Springs (Hot Springs)

These undeveloped hot springs are located south of the Nass River between the towns of Laxgalts’ap and Gitwinksihlkw. The site has a gravel soaking pool fed by two hot water and two cold water pipes. The spring water has a strong sulfur odor and its temperature is very hot at around 60°C (140°F). The cold water from the two pipes can be used to adjust the temperature of the tub to a comfortable level. This is a sacred place for the Nisga’a Nation, visitors must treat this area with respect and keep it clean.

Getting Here

From Terrace, take Highway 118 (Kalum Lake Rd which becomes Nisga’a Highway) and drive north for about 95 km (you will reach the Nisga’a Memorial Lava Bed Provincial Park). Look for a major junction. Take left and continue driving west. In 7 km from the junction you will pass a turnoff to the town of Gitwinksihlkw. Keep driving straight for another 12.5 km and look for a 20-km sign. When the road comes very close to the river, park your car.

Continue west on foot for about 250 meters. Look for a trail on the left (south) side of the road. Walk for another 5-10 minutes until you reach the springs.
