Capilano Salmon Hatchery (Other)

Capilano Salmon Hatchery was established in 1971 to mitigate the loss of salmon habitat from the construction of Cleveland Dam on Capilano River. The Interpretive Centre is open to the public and features a number of displays that provide information about Pacific salmon and its lifecycle as well as about the work of the hatchery. The viewing area has plexiglas windows allowing visitors to observe spawning salmon moving up the fishway into the holding area. The juvenile rearing pools at the north end of the facility contain young salmon fry. The best times to view adult fish entering the hatchery are March-April for Steelhead, June-November for Coho, and October-November for Chinook.
