Shames Mountain Ski Area (Downhill Skiing)

 

Shames Mountain, located in the Shames Valley in Northern BC region 35 km west of Terrace, is famous for having the most snow of any other ski resort in North America. On average, the resort gets 1200 cm (40 feet) of white powder every winter season – that’s a lot of snow! Shames Mountain alpine area has a vertical drop of 488 meters (1600 ft) and features 35 excellent runs of various difficulty levels with the longest run of 4 km (2.5 mi). If you are looking for more adrenaline rush, try ramps, rails and boxes at the Rodeo Terrain Park.

Shames Mountain offers amazing backcountry skiing and snowboarding opportunities for the adventurous riders.

At the base of the mountain guests will find a number of facilities and services provided by the resort: a ski shop and equipment rentals, ski and snowboard school, a day lodge, mountain pub, and a cafeteria. Various accommodations are available at the town of Terrace.

Directions

Location: 35 km west of Terrace, 137 km east of Prince Rupert.

From Terrace: Take HWY 16 West. In approximately 23 km turn right onto Shames Mt Rd. Drive for another 13 km until you reach the resort.

From Prince Rupert: Take HWY 16 East. In approximately 119 km turn left onto Shames Mt Rd. Drive for another 13 km until you reach the resort.
