Tchentlo Lake Hot Springs (Hot Springs)

These undeveloped warm springs are located approximately 130 km northwest of Fort St. James on the shore of the Tchentlo Lake, which is one of the lakes in the chain of the Nation Lakes. The site offers three comfortable pools with a bit muddy bottoms overlooking the snow-capped mountain peaks and the lake. The water in the pools is not hot, only 25°C (75°F), it is odorless and has a strong soda taste. Although the springs are a little chilly for extended soaking, the ease of access and the beautiful surrounding scenery make this site a popular destination for travelers.

Getting Here

This warm spring site is accessible by boat only. You can rent a boat at the Tchentlo Lake Lodge or bring your own. The lodge can be contacted via radiophone on the Mount Dixon channel at H425357.

To get to the lodge:

  • From Prince George, take Highway 16 and head west to the town of Vanderhoof (about 100 km).
  • Turn right onto Highway 27 west of Vanderhoof and drive north for 54 km to Fort St James. Get some gas as there no more gas on the way to the lodge.
  • Drive through the city until you cross the rail road. Turn left onto Tachie Rd and drive west for about 41 km (you will pass a village of Pinchi and Stuard Lake Provincial Park).
  • Look for a turnoff to the Leo Creek (Grostete) FSR. Turn right onto the Leo Creek (Grostete) FST and drive for about 68 km.
  • At 68 km sign, keep right and take the Driftwood FSR. Drive for about 15 km and turn right onto the Tchentlo Lake Lodge Road and head east. The little bay of the lake will be on your right (south).
