French Beach Provincial Park

This wonderful provincial park is situated on the rugged west coast of Vancouver Island, offering spectacular views across Juan de Fuca Straight to the Olympic Mountains of Washington State. Marine wildlife watching from 1.6 km long rocky beach is one of the favourite pastimes here. In spring, pods of gray whales pass by the coast on the way to their feeding grounds in the north, and make a trip back in the fall. Orcas, otters, seals, and sea lions frequent the waters near the beach and can often be observed from the shore. Other activities popular in this park include beachcombing, hiking the lush forests of Douglas fir, Sitka spruce, Western hemlock and Western red cedar, and windsurfing. The campsites are set in a heavily wooded area, with the beach just a short walk away.
