Juniper Beach Provincial Park

Juniper Beach Provincial Park is found on the banks of the mighty Thompson River in a hot, dry, desert-like area between Cache Creek and Savona. The park protects the benchlands above Thompson with their characteristic vegetation of tall grasses, dry sagebrush, and prickly pear cacti. Cottonwoods and junipers can be found nearer to the river. In season, anglers flock to this park in hopes of catching salmon and steelhead trout. Other favourite activities here include kayaking in the swift currents of Thompson River, and swimming in a natural pool that forms at the beach when river waters are at low levels. A CPR rail line runs close to the campground, and sounds of passing trains can often be heard. This park is located in the heart of BC Gold Country with many historic attractions nearby, including Ashcroft Manor and Hat Creek Ranch. The park’s convenient location near Highway 1 makes it a great place for an overnight stop.

Thompson River contains trout, steelhead and salmon.

Hiking

Hiking

There are a few undesignated trails used by visitors in the vicinity of the campground. Caution should be used when hiking in the area. Watch out for prickly pear cactus and during the months of March - June watch for ticks.

Swimming

Swimming

During lower water levels on the river, there is a small "swimming hole" on the beach in front of the campground. It is an area that is naturally sectioned off from the main river and provides a more protected swimming opportunity. Use caution as the waters of the Thompson River are dangerously swift especially during high water.

Canoeing / Kayaking

Canoeing / Kayaking

Canoeing and kayaking opportunities are available in the area. Both vessels can be easily launched from the park. Canoeists should check the grade of the river before attempting navigation.
