Premier Lake Provincial Park

Surrounded by breathtaking Rocky Mountain scenery, this park contains a beautiful turquoise Premier Lake, as well as 4 smaller lakes, all found within the park boundary. The park is a popular destination for fishing, as all 5 lakes provide excellent opportunities for catching rainbow, brook, and cutthroat trout. In June, spawning rainbow trout can be seen at Premier Lake as they climb up the fish ladder at the mouth of Staples Creek. Trout roe collected at the fish trap by the Kootenay Fish Hatchery is used to stock hundreds of lakes around the province. Swimming can be enjoyed from a sandy beach at Premier Lake; canoeing and kayaking are also popular on the lake. The park has 6 hiking trails of various levels of difficulty that lead from the campground to the 4 smaller lakes and other points of interest in the area.
