Sidney Spit Marine (Gulf Islands National Park)

Sidney Spit Marine Park is part of the Gulf Islands National Park reserve of Canada. It is located in the north part of Sidney Island four kilometres off-shore from Vancouver Island and can be reached by a foot passenger ferry from Sidney or by a private boat. This park is not accessible by car. The landscape is surprisingly varied and includes a long sandspit with spectacular views of the ocean and an adjacent lagoon; rocky bluffs; forests of fir, maple, cedar, and arbutus; salt marshes; and grassy meadows. Swimmers, sunbathers, canoeists, and kayakers can greatly enjoy the thousands of meter of white sandy beach. Numerous hiking trails run through the park and offer fantastic opportunities to explore the island’s many natural wonders. The island is a delight for birdwatchers, as it is visited by more than 150 species of birds, including Brandt geese, cormorant, Oldsquaw, Western Sandpiper, and many others. 26 walk-in campsites are located in a grassy area approximately 1 km from the ferry dock. Please note that visitors camping on the island must be registered at a designated campsite before the last ferry leaves for the day.
