Vaseux Lake Provincial Park

Vaseux Lake Provincial Park is found on Highway 97, 25 km south of Penticton and 14 km north of Oliver. This park has a small campground that sits on a strip of land wedged between Highway 97 and the shore of Vaseux Lake. This shallow and weedy lake, 4 km long, provides an important habitat for a variety of birds, including Canada geese, trumpeter swans, blue-winged teal, widgeons and wood ducks. Activities that can be enjoyed at this park include birdwatching, canoeing and kayaking on the lake, as well as swimming from the beach at the campground. Fishing for largemouth bass, trout, and carp is reputed to be very good. California bighorn sheep and mountain goats can sometimes be seen on the bluffs near the campground. Opportunities to observe various birds and animals also exist at the Vaseux Wildlife Centre just north of the campground.

Traffic noise a big problem

Submitted by yas on November 18, 2009

This tiny campground is located right next to a very busy highway, and traffic noise (and smell) is a major problem here. About half the sites are located right on the lake shore and are sheltered by trees, so it's less noisy here. These sites are occupied first. The other half of the sites are very close to the highway, and there is no trees or privacy here. I cannot imagine staying in one of those, it's just not enjoyable. Vaseux Lake is quite pretty, and if you have a canoe or a kayak, you can enjoy a relaxing paddle while watching the various birds that live on the lake. The Wildlife Centre on Vaseux Lake is also well worth a visit. There is a short trail here that goes through a nicely treed area filled with nesting songbirds.
