Wells Gray Provincial Park (Clearwater/Falls Creek

 

Wells Gray Provincial Park encompasses over 540,000 hectares of spectacular wilderness and contains snowcapped mountains, alpine meadows, glaciers, numerous lakes, rivers, streams, and several magnificent waterfalls. Boundless recreation opportunities exist at this park: hiking many kilometres of trails, canoeing and kayaking, fishing, swimming, horseback riding, and mountain biking are all excellent here. Guided canoeing tours, as well as hiking and horseback riding trips are available through a variety of commercial services in and near the park. The park’s most famous attraction, Helmcken Falls, are approximately three times the height of Niagara Falls. The park has three vehicle-accessible campgrounds: Clearwater / Falls Creek, Pyramid, and Mahood Lake, as well as several wilderness / canoe camping areas on Clearwater, Azure, Murtle, and Mahood Lakes.

Clearwater / Falls Creek campground is found 68 km north of the town of Clearwater and is accessed via Clearwater Valley Road. The campground is stretched along the bank of the beautiful Clearwater River at its outflow from Clearwater Lake. Several hiking / mountain biking trails start at the campground. Canoeing and kayaking can be enjoyed on Clearwater and Azure Lakes. Canoe rentals are available at the park.

Location

Turn off Highway 5 at the information centre in Clearwater; travel 68 km north on Clearwater Valley Road to reach the campground. The road is paved for the first 47 km, then it becomes gravel.
