Strathcona Park Lodge & Outdoor Education Center

 

Overlooking the shores of Upper Campbell Lake and a procession of snow-capped peaks, our accommodations consist of an eclectic collection of log and timber-framed chalets and waterfront cottages, with no television, cell phone or internet access from the rooms to disturb the natural tranquility.

Three sumptuous meals featuring West Coast Cuisine are served each day, as well as snacks and beverages. Dine in the casual Whale Room or the Canoe Club Café. Our chefs also cater to gluten-free, dairy-free, heart-smart and vegan diets. Location

From Victoria, follow Highway #1 (the Trans-Canada) north to Nanaimo. From Nanaimo, follow Highway #19 north to Campbell River. Note: North of Courtenay you will see a sign “Strathcona Parkway” this takes you to Mt. Washington and our Alpine Chalets DO NOT take this road unless you are booked into our Alpine Chalets.

Both the scenic route (19A) or the Bypass (19) will bring you to Campbell River and the junction of Hwy 28 (Gold River / Tahsis). Strathcona Park and Strathcona Park Lodge are located on Highway 28, 40 km (about 45 minutes drive) west of Campbell River. Be sure to fill your gas tank in Campbell River, as there are no other gas stations on the way to the Lodge.

Driving times to the Lodge is approximately: 5.5 hours from Vancouver (including the ferry ride), 4.5 hours from Victoria, 2.5 hours from Nanaimo and 45 minutes from Campbell River.

IF COMING BY CAR, PLEASE GAS UP YOUR VEHICLE IN CAMPBELL RIVER, AS THERE ARE NO GAS STATIONS BETWEEN CAMPBELL RIVER AND THE LODGE.

Sea Kayaking Johnstone Strait $1895 7 days / 6 nights Johnstone Strait is famous for its resident population of Orca whales and abundant marine life. Kayakers keep a respectful distance; however the whales often approach the kayaks!

Sea Kayaking Nootka Sound $1935 8 days / 7 nights  Steeped in history and legend, Nootka Sound supports an incredibly lush ecosystem, a true rainforest,  winding fjords, isolated sandy beaches and open ocean. This area of exceptional beauty offers protected paddling and short open-water crossings – a paddler’s paradise.

Hiking Strathcona’s Alpine $1365 6 days / 5 nights  Explore the oldest Provincial Park in British Columbia; pristine alpine lakes, giant old-growth trees, flower-filled alpine meadows, and snow-capped peaks. Follow the Bedwell Trail up to remote Cream Lake for breathtaking views of Nine Peaks and Della Falls, the tallest waterfall in Canada.

Hiking Nootka Island $2040 8 days / 7 nights  Journey in the footsteps of 18th century Nootka Chief Maquinna. Fly to the north end of Nootka Island and hike the rugged, isolated and pristine coastline to Yuquot (Friendly Cove). Return to SPL via the MV Uchuck III. This trip must start on a Sunday or Thursday. Includes: Accommodation, meals, group equipment, incidental transportation. First and last night at Strathcona Park Lodge. Nights in between minimal impact camping.
